There is a Sigma Fp review on YouTube by you know who... "This camera is TERRIBLE" It is an absolute travesty of justice that it has 105k views whereas Sigma's short film has less than 3000. It is exactly for this reason I am so reluctant to put any effort into YouTube content myself. I can't compete with all the bullshit. You have to feel sorry for the director. I think Films are better off in the cinema. "Sin sin" was going to Cannes before the coronavirus hit. Better to rise above. I am proud of my written reviews. Don't care if it's a niche, or if I'm an outsider! Been doing them for 10 years. Why give that up and basically go on a TV shopping channel? My 1D X III YouTube review has about 2000 views - was a complete waste of time I'd have to embrace advertising and tacky merchandise to make YouTube work financially. And if it worked I'd get a big ego. Besides, it's a real grind and work rate is atrocious - I am not willing to become part of the YouTuber-manager-orchestrated-circle-jerk of established YouTube celebrities.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I've got a very good deal for a GX80 with the 20mm and 12-32mm pancakes and I'm very happy with my choice. Now let's see what I can do with it :)

I also like BlackMagic 4K Film to Rec709 V3 for a quick grade and using your setup in Camera Raw which is IMHO 100% the correct way to work with CInemaDNG files.

I use a Sachtler "Doctor Bag" for mine.

What bugs me especially about that video is that Caleb's actual review seems to be generally pretty positive and IMO fair when considering that a vast majority of his viewers won't need a full-blown CinemaDNG RAW workflow (though Caleb does suggest a rather straightforward and not particularly straining workflow with the RAW files in the review) and will likely be looking for an easier "Quality of Life" camera to use for their work. The issue is that video title is clickbait-y as hell and rejects the finer nuances of the pros and cons of his actual review. As far as I can tell without having had a chance to properly use one myself (yet), the thing with the Sigma FP is that it's basically a super cheap full frame cinema camera brain that also happens to be a very capable stills photography camera, unlike the Blackmagic Pocket 4K and 6K. It wasn't made with the intent of being super convenient across the board and inevitably that's going to turn away a lot of potential customers. We'll have to wait and see if Sigma will aim to make the FP's successor model more convenient in those Quality of Life ways. Also as an aside, it would absolutely behoove Sigma to release Sin-sin on Vimeo and soon. Obviously not many people use it, but it still gets some mileage (Matt Reeves used Vimeo to reveal the new Batsuit in a Costume Test footage earlier this year, for instance) and I think anyone wanting to watch the short with the intent of really examining how capable the FP is as an A-camera for a proper cinema production would want to see the footage in a format that presents as few artifacts caused by the site and compression as possible.

Incredible read. I got a good laugh when the author immediately referenced The 400 Blows and Yamanaka-san confirmed that it had been an influence on Sin-Sin, because that movie was the first thing that came to my mind after watching the short. Also, holy cow this short was originally set to debut at Cannes. I was already gushing over how great the short was compared to other company shorts made to promote a new camera in one of the other FP threads, but that little nugget of info speaks volumes as to how good it is compared to what else we typically see done to promote these types of cameras. Sigma hit a homerun with the cinematic qualities of the FP. While there's definitely a number of things they can do to improve for the next model, I'm very happy to see just how stellar a camera they made with the FP.

You'd 100% want a vest too. Not unless you're doing the shortest of shots, and only on an infrequent basis. I've had my F3 on a steadicam before (not me though, had a steadicam op), and yeah, it's not something to be handled lightly. (ha!) It is weird. Put a timecode box and a wireless RX on it for scratch. Pick any two (although all three is ideal, or in a pinch, just one) of: 1) wireless camera hop 2) timecode box 3) any SDC, or a very short shotgun (such as Sanken CS1e / CS-1M, Rode NTG5, Deity S-Mic 2S)

Well ive already done it with small cameras but not with the F3, but yes i guess it is not the best for car rigging however it still is a solution for low budget ( around 300e). Yes the image woobles a bit when there are bumps in the road but at low speed (no more than 25mph) in a controlled environnement you can get pretty good results, at least with small camera. You can see it at around 29sec on this music video i did : Of course it is amateur but at least i can still get some cool shots

Hello guys, i just wanted to say that i just bought a Sony F3 with 444 RGB + the video assist (for just over 1200€) as my first camera after seeing what y'all said about it. I was originally going for the A7sii because that's the camera i've always rented but i had a bit of issues while doing heavy grading. I tested it out a bit with my set of canon FDs and i really like the look of it, but i'm a little worried with the weight. Do any of you already used it on a Glidecam ? I tried it on my Ronin M and obviously it did not work but i am wondering if it is possible with a glidecam in order to get steadyshots. I tested it out with a wheelchair and it seems to work pretty good on plane surface. Maybe it is better to get a cheap small camera to go with to use for these type of shots .Thinking about the original A7s wich is selling at around 500€ used in my area or maybe a GH4/A6300 with a focal reducer. What do you think ? Also i will try to mount it on my car tomorrow with the camtree car mount beacuse i saw a photo of a F3 being rigged on with it :

Stills from some past F3 projects, all with Leica R's and the 5" Video Assist. Such a remarkable camera: lovely to use, easy to grade, solid in low light, lots of dynamic range...for the money I paid, it's earned its keep 50 times over.

Congratulations! All those years ago when I purchased my brand new BMPCC for US$500, I would have bet that by mid 2020 we could possibly buy a secondhand BMPCC for a couple of hundred bucks or less! But no, it took a long time before you could easily get a secondhand BMPCC for cheaper than what I paid for my new BMPCC! Took the release of the Pocket 4K to really give the prices a good shove down, but even that wasn't enough. This thread didn´t help to stop me. As some long time forum enthusiasts @IronFilm might remember, I have been thinking about getting a F3 for a while. The term "mini alexa" didnt help me much for resisting. So I just bought an F3 with the 444 update for around 750 eu. It was 200 more than I was dreaming on spending as max. But then I was thinking, when will a 444 model come around again. Plus my FS700 gives 2K aliasing parade over SDI, so I would have to record 4K output to really make it shine. But then again, how long will I have to wait to find a deal on a 444 recorder.:) Crap, 750, these days, for a 1080p camera! Well, better than spending all on toilet paper. This video gave me the last push towards my weird purchase. Such beautiful colors. Darn, some talented people on this forum can achieves this look with a GH3 or a 5D3. Right? Anyone want a F3 with 444 output? I should stay away from dangerious threads like this one. cheers:) By the way, no cheap deals on the OG BM Pockets anymore.

The Sigma FP has internal RAW

I registered on this forum in 2014. At the time, there was very limited option for indie filmmaker beside the new GH4. But in the past 5 years here is what we got: Generalization of quality video on DSLR/Mirrorless : 4K is becoming mainstream on entry-level camera. 4k60 is common while 10bits is the new 8bits. Raw is a the corner or already here (Pocket 4k/6K, Sigma FP). All brands implement good video specs on camera nowadays. Consumer drone revolution: cheap, effective and portable drones. Gimbal for all: just as the drone, what used to be an expensive and complex high end equipment is now available for a few hundreds dollars on amazon. And the system works out the box with minimal effort. New editing tools: Adobe brought Lumetri, Da Vinci is a serious option (for free), there are plenty of useful plugin available. Editing tools are so good now. My videographer life in 2014: Camera: I had a Canon camera (shitty for video) and just bought a GH4. There was not good gimbal at the time and IBIS was a niche feature. Drone: DJI was a small unknown company, only making camera-less drones. I used to film aerial video a with a custom built FPV drone and the whole thing was a mess. Soldering, calibrating a lot of parts (ESCs, FC, radio), messing with flight controller and gimbal PIDs, frame and props resonance with gopro scan that created jello on the footage. Dealing with a mix of analog and digital parts. Radio link required external ground station with special high gain antennas. Finally, the whole system took and entire bag (drone, ground station, LiPo charger, FPV system). People don't realize how amazing drones are today. The fact that we can now purchase perfectly working drone, with stable camera, no rolling shutter issue, incredible radio range and portability is a blessing. My videographer life in 2019: Camera: plenty of choice from all the manufacturers, 4K everywhere, in 60p and 10bits. Sigma FP, Fuji XT3, GH5, Pocket 4k and 6K. Panasonic launching FF camera. Most mirrorless have IBIS. Sonny revolutionized low light video with the A7S line. Gimbal: I can't even keep up with the release. A good gimbal costs $400 now. DJI proposes all-in-one tiny gimbal camera for $300. Drones: Mavic Air, Mavic 2 Pro with 4k10bits, etc. Autel just announced an 8K drones (EVO II) I'm amazed by the profusion of good gears available today. I fit all my stuff in a large carry on backpack: 4k10 bits drone (Mavic 2), cropless 4k60 cam (GH5), cheap gimbal (Crane), excellent still camera (Canon 6D), and a slider with accessories. So I must admit that I don't really understand all the gear whining on this forum. The Nikon Z6 is "pixel binned" and external recording is late. Canon cripples its next camera? The a7s3 might be a revolution? Who cares? There are like 10 good alternatives on the market. Just get the next XT-3 or use existing cam already (S1H, S1, A73, GH5, Pocket 4k, etc.). I'm not targeting anyone in particular but I found EOSHD to be a valuable resource in 2014 when we got to deal with limited equipment. Now, I just don't see the point. Most of the posts are just an endless suite of gear whining and fight on pointless details. We acclaim every progress by hyperbolic statement ("10bits or 4k is a revolution") just to forget it the next day and dictate new requirements to manufacturers. Then, we get outraged because raw upgrade is not already available on a consumer grade camera. That's endless and not productive. Unlike 2014, gears are not a problem anymore, this is not a limiting factor. If you can't deliver a good video with the actual stuff today, that's on you. I wish that we could focus on actual film-making. All the best.

Use Slimraw instead to recompress the CinemaDNG to smaller file sizes. Cineform Raw is a sparsely supported and pretty much a dead format.
