  3. I decided to stick with my S1 instead of upgrading to the S1H or switching over to pocket 6k or zcam f6. The S1 for web delivery is basically identical to the S1H minus the 6k. Again, one has to factor the devices for most people viewing your content. Most dont even have 4k monitors and limited to 1080 on their phones. Second, for paid gig, a Ninja V is almost required anyway for monitoring plus ease of editing of prores /dnx files. The AF is not great, but for its usable for certain shots. The 24-105 kit lens is also the most versatile kit lens with the macro capability and being parfocal. I was thinking of getting the XT4 but as I go back to my f log XT3 files vs vlog S1 files I just get reminded how great the S1 image quality is. I use a black pro mist to soften some of the sharpness

  5. that is what he says on the video, that the main issue is not patents and the such, but the difficulty to fly drones in general with all the laws and restrictions that are are roumored. Also, that the patent is kind of silly, as it is a very simple desing, and probably DJI did it first, but didn't patented! Autel also, as mentioned, is another Chinese company, it seems like innovation have slipped completely from Europe, the whole continent has esoteric issues right now, if we do not find the middle solution and unite on a Federation, something like the United States of Europe, then we are doomed, on many ways (very old population, few child births, no productive young population to drive the workforce and the insurance system, no significant natural resources, immigration issues because of war and climatic change). If we lost innovation, we are done. Germans still have some of that, still produce and design cars, cameras, but slowly and steady, everything moves to Asia. Australia is doing well, though, you just do not want(need) us!

  6. I will be start putting youtube videos, as it is fashionable these days on this forum! Kidding, just this one, because it explains some things, and he was very fast to upload. The common enemy is different, maybe Autel will get a big fat check from DJI, and we will go our way.

  7. I am not posting anything, because I have decided long ago (at the 90's, mind you) that I do not want to have a digital life, equal to my real life. The last 3 years, I have more than 100-150 episodes on the air on national televeision, on the main TV stations, if it wasn't for the virus, I would be still working on the daily comedy series. My job is sound, so my big investments go there. My mics (with their zeppelins) probably, or most definitely, cost more than your current cameras in total. Only the small Sanken and the Cosi I bought in September and the Ambisonic mic I bought a little bit later went around 2700euros. and these are not even my main mics. Imagine I have half a dozen more + lapel microphnes like the DPA 6060. I also have a small company fully equiped for small productions, multiple cameras, Sachtler tripods, lenses for most systems, lights, computers, Edelkrones and a newly bought editing suite to cut everything like butter. I believe it is silly to try to make me show my bling and flex my golden chains like 13 years old hip hop youtubers do, but try to be more polite please. I do not even know you, and I wouldn't like to know you either, so try to keep it civilized. And the other thing, accusing me of "DJI fanboy", get a grip man, you are an adult, how someone can be a "DJI fanboy"? and who cares? it is just the company with the bigger mainstream history, and their products have served as good for many years. Oligarchies or monopolies are bad things, so I vote for the smaller player, but when I spend more than 2000euros on a drone, I want it to be reliable first. Maybe my next one will be something else, for now the Mavic 2 Pro is the best for my needs. How hard is this to comprehend? Again, I feel I am talking to my kids and try to explain how life works.. I am wondering @Emanuel, do you even have a drone? Only thing I see is you posting youtube videos. Here, I can do that too.

  8. GH6, S35 sensor with mft mount like LS300, still with IBIS. Full 3 to 2 sensor readout at 60p and 4K at 120p. Internal Prores plus h264 and h265 flavours. Timecode In and out. Battery grip with SDI. Full VLOG with true zero sharpening and noise reduction. Flawless HD like GH5, which S1 and S1H don´t provide that unfortunately. 10 bit in high frame rates. 2000 EU. Deal! I enjoy mine. Have only tested it inside and was surpised by its image quality on speedboosted mft.

  9. What a gem this camera is. I always get distracted by what else is coming out - GFX 100, SL2, X-T4, and the list goes on. But when I look at my footage shot in Asia and Berlin on the GH2, I realised how effective locked down shots are with manual focus. Back when we had to use a tripod... Even the slightest shake is a distraction. There was no racking or AF during a shot either, that just ruined things. This was before follow focuses were common on mirrorless cameras... and the AF, well, it was useful for AF-S to lock off a subject and then you'd record and keep it there. I continue to come back to the S1 because it is the spiritual successor to the GH2. It's not expensive (well, compared to an S1H or cine camera) so it's aimed at the same people. It's relatively small, smaller than an C200 or FS5 for example which are the smallest popular cine cameras. It has a very good battery and huge EVF. The IBIS is tip top. The image in V-LOG, 10bit 150Mbit astounding, yet the file sizes remain much smaller than 400Mbit ALL-I. The 4K 10bit image quality difference to the S1H hardly exists. The ability to load a LUT onto the live-view display and shoot with your favourite one - what other mirrorless camera does that for £1500?! It is amazing in low light, it's full frame, and you can leave the tripod at home. I would take either over the X-T4 as it stands, good though that is. Now the GFX 100 is marvellous... but it's £8k even used! The SL2 would be wonderful if it actually shot 4K without the battery error, so that ruins that. The Sony A7 III is fine, but the image just doesn't hold a candle to the S1. So putting autofocus to one side and just shooting nice stuff the classic way... there is no better tool than the S1. If you want to use manual lenses with IBIS and shoot 4K 10bit LOG, the S1 is the best camera out there, especially for the price. Although the Sigma Fp doesn't have the same amount of features or an EVF, or yet a LOG profile, I rate that highly as well. Will do a round up of all the current cameras soon on EOSHD.

  10. I do not think the early M43 cameras were all that great for available light beyond base ISO or just a little higher. If you can use base ISO it is ok even now I think. The Gh1 (actually scores a little better on DXO than the GH2) DR for instance is competitive with the Canon 1Dx at base ISO but by ISO 200 is about a stop behind already and by ISO 3200 is almost THREE AND A HALF stops behind (the 1DX is behind newer FF cameras at base but seems to have pretty much the same DR from base through to ISO 800). My A7s has greater DR at ISO 102400 than the GH1 and the same DR as the GH2 at ISO 3200. When I can find one cheap enough and have the money then and there I would love one to play with (Gh1 or 2).

  14. They could do something like this for a GH6S style camera with no IBIS. One could argue the GH5S sensor is approaching APSC size. I wonder how many MFT lenses could cover the image circle without any major side effects? Sharpness in the corners would be reduced but we are talking video here so not a big deal.

  18. I'd rather know who we're talking to. In the reality, anonymous IDs have no place there. Why here? Especially with a frequent and valuable user like you? Without mention the lack of reciprocity I invariably tend to avoid as much as possible. In any case, you're used to talk about your craft (isn't it one of the reasons for the existence of a forum like this one we share?), very welcome here for everyone (me included) so you're not the example of an anonymous individual per se. In your behalf. That's a positive remark. You've recently taken my posts addressed to you too serious. I don't see you exactly as a 'DJI troll', c'mon, I was kidding with you : ) Even though, in my country, we're used to say if we don't want to be a wolf, we cannot take the wolf's skin for us ; ) There was another point behind my invective though. I guess we're used to please each other's posts except more lately when I noticed you decided to be nasty through the grapevine. I believe you know very well when and where, so I think we have no need to come back now there. No, I didn't buy a drone yet. Something we two have in common, we need to justify any purchase. It simply hasn't happened. It will for sure. So, still in the market looking for. However, I always tend to celebrate the feat even when not directly connected with me as user or my personal choice. My posts are there to testify that. Last but not least, Internet communication is a bit different, so I'd dare to say we both would praise a friendly meeting out there in the real world. Bet on that : -) - Emanuel

Well its been awhile, a couple of lenses have been added to the collection. The first being a russian lens an industar 61, 53 f2.8, nice exterior, great lenses but more play in it than the local kindergarten, which is rather disheartening. focusing turns really easily till it hits a rough patch in the middle. it was the only question i didn't ask the previous seller seeing it was pretty cheap it would probably cost more to send it back. So far it seems like it requires a different flange distance adapter to what i have already Things being a bit tight i haven't really worried about sorting it out just yet. The other lens is a vintage canon or fd mount, but its a bit of an odd one for the forum i think, and its still on its way from the usa. Postage was quite reasonable oddly enough coming from the usa, however the conversion rate left me high and dry. Looking on ebay it seems about $60-80 cheaper than some others i have seen, hopefully its a good deal. I have sworn of lenses till i can put some dollars together for a fvd16a for the elmoscope type 1. Got a confirmation email from rapido this morning that the fvd16a will fit. I'll just buy the front adapter / clamp thing as well, i have the rear mounting already sorted.

  21. I highly recommend for anyone watching this for the first time that you actually write down your impressions before the cameras are revealed, and do it properly, because once they're revealed it's very difficult to remember what you really thought, rather than what you think you thought after all your biases are plastered all over your blind impressions. Somewhat contrary to prevailing currents, I thought the cameras were in three tiers - best / middle / worst - and I put the GH2 in the worst tier. I didn't like the colours or the noticeable compression issues. Interestingly my three tiers were basically in price order, which surprised me as I had my doubts that I would be able to pick that out. From memory, the comments from the audience members who preferred the lower-budget cameras were around the colours and contrast, which is a creative choice. One reason I prefer cameras with higher DR is that you can take a scene and create either a high-contrast or a low-contrast grade from it, but in a high-DR situation you can't create a low-contrast grade from a low-DR camera, so it's a matter of flexibility for me. Plus I shoot primarily outdoors in available light, so flexibility is more valuable to me than getting the look I want straight out of camera, and I do also prefer a less contrasty more natural look, which also matters.

    RED Komodo

Good for RED. It is about time they delivered an affordable product... I'm still mad that they did not deliver 3k for $3k as promised. I hope RED will deliver 6k for $6k. Anyways, I thought the SNL Brad Pitt monologue looked nice, so I imagine it will be some people's A camera. I am guessing it will be back ordered, then RED will have supply chain issues, then RED will decide they can no longer afford to sell it for $6k due to the supply chain issues, so they will decide to stop selling it all together once it starts eating into the higher end product line sales. That said, I am hoping I am wrong... but I am not holding my breath... Here's the original RED Scarlet 3k footage and then they never release the camera... as they said they wanted to focus on being a high in camera manufacturer... well this footage looked highend to me... (except for the pre-release price of 3k). They could have sold it for $9k, but still not enough money for them apparently...

  24. Hallo friends, I won´t bother with a SI2K Mini due to lack of opportunity. But this has been bugging me ever since Cesar Charlones photograph hit my eye. Unfortunately I missed out a big opportunity to ask Cesar Charlone himself at Camerimage last year when he was sitting right behind me: What in the name of mankind is this awesome tiny monitor / EVF you were wearing? I was researching about master Charlones movie sets. Was enlarging BTS photos, was doing my google research tricks. Nothing. No insight found. It is not a Cineroid, which would be way too bulky. It is a phantom. What a DP and what a kewl EVF! So dear lens nerds and camera geeks, what is that EVF or monitor that was in Cesar Charlones box, whenever he put it away from his eye? May your research begin. Here is the man himself shooting with the Si2K on set of "La Redota". Smiling like an enigma of cinemagic. What a legend! cheers

Your stuff is one of the best aerial footage we can actually find on web or anywhere -- here are the links to the subforum Andrew created for us and where this thread misplaced here by my fault : ) should actually be located as well: By my mistake too, I also re-posted some other video already linked before when it should be this experience of 3 hours and 40 minutes (yeah, you read it well : D) here made in the beautiful Croatian landscapes: There's also this series of portraits by air and country I have no idea if you've ever noticed (aired on National Geographic): https://www.nationalgeographic.com.au/tv/china-from-above/episodes.aspx https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_From_Above https://www.natgeotv.com/za/shows/natgeo/europe-from-above https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/program/video/japanfromabove/ And powerful shots don't necessarily mean to be captured in motion, so here is a marvelous row of those: https://www.nationalgeographic.fr/photography/2018/12/le-monde-vu-du-ciel-avec-jassen-torodov This planet is plenty of different locations to give to the world to see and business opportunities from networks for local shooters... RED Komodo

Yeah, I was thinking about this. Part of me thinks that even if they internally recognize the opportunity of marketing this camera to a new segment of the market, they’d never pitch it as a more affordable, lower tier option because they don’t want to erode their high end brand image. Marketing it solely as a crash-cam/drone camera for high end work makes sense in that way. On the other hand they were also known as disruptors in the past so I could see where they could also market the camera as such.

Difficult not to agree although RED have consistently claimed that Komodo is primarily a niche camera to support other RED cameras (drone, crash, gimbal etc.) and is not intended as an A camera for those outside the Holy Circle.

  33. I think the video mentioned Jaws. It does make sense though, considering that at sunrise and sunset the sun is warm and the shadows are cool, so we've probably learned that at those times of day dark things are bluer, so logically (and incorrectly) we'd assume that night would be very blue B&W is great. For one thing, you don't lose resolution in de-bayering, which is great if you're shooting on 1080 or lower. It's also great for bad quality codecs. and any camera that has chroma noise. I found the luma noise on my 700D with ML RAW was terrible, but when you de-noise only the chroma the remaining luma noise was very nice. In a sense, I have. I decided early on that I wanted to get a high quality but neutral capture, and then I want to process it heavily in post. In a sense I'm implementing a kind of human-based computational photography. As I shoot available everything and try to exert as little influence over what I shoot as possible, it's just about capturing it in the most nimble way possible, and spending the limited skill and attention I have on what matters, which was composition and artistic elements. I very quickly realised that lenses can't be simulated in post, and also that AF is stupid, which is why I went manual. It's also why I chose Resolve. Resolve was (at v 12 when I bought it) a very basic editor, but it had advanced features for processing the image. The colour engine is good, the stabilisation was great, and the slow-motion was world-class. It also cost less than the standard stabilisation plugins and the slow-motion plugins at the time too. My adventures in Micro-land are primarily to learn how to make the GH5 look as good as possible, which feeds into learning to grade, which feeds into my pursuit of post-processing. The Micro and P2K are a reference image second only to the Alexas (and five-figure cinema cameras) of this world, so this is my main goal. Everyone knows that a well-edited film is a joy to watch. If I had to choose between a solidly-shot and beautifully edited (including sound design, music, grading, etc) piece and one shot on an Alexa but edited by a first-year film student, I know which I'd choose. Anyone who has shot anything on a GoPro and tried to make it look good in post knows that the footage SOOC is garbage unless you're doing something with huge insurance premiums. Anyone who has downloaded the sample clips from RED and tried to grade them also knows they don't immediately spring to life in post either. Of course, if you own a Micro and light well, then you can set a few settings in the RAW panel and get a lovely image out, which means that with some basic editing and sound and music you can end up with a very nice final product, which makes it easier. My approach is to try and get more convenience when I shoot for less convenience in post, but to get broadly the same result. I'm optimistic

well the first timelapse of 2020 is done and dusted. If you have a spare one minute 40 seconds take a look, used the gopro with the letus anamorphic and the rage cam battery eliminator. The battery easily lasted the day. I had the gopro setup on video with the timelapse function so it built a video as it took a photo i ended up with 1.3 gigabyte file. I did edit it down to just show the birds, lots of bees use the water i notice. Pretty sure a lot more animals use the water than i caught this time round as usually the bath is half empty. May have to run a light or two and film into the night, but thats a test for another time. i'll keep going trialing different settings and see what else turns up. I defished in gopro studio then edited in resolve, the cuts are pretty noticeable need more practice with that aspect. there is no sound might have a word with ironfilms about a cheap 2 channel recorder thats good at ambient nature sounds

Put in a session with the p4k and the lomo 40mm and elmoscope this afternoon. the lomo fits inside the clamp housing and slides in nearly 10mm, no vignetting with it at either up against the elmo or sitting at the back of the clamp. the only issue is that the lomo has the aperture adjustment on the front close to the lens which is a pain in the ass. So its not a long term solution but at least i learned 40mm doesn't vignette on the p4k with the elmoscope. 35mm does vignette with the elmo but since i usually crop the sides it would probably be ok. Thats a test i want to do soon. One layer of masking tape allows for a nice snug fit with a cheap 77 step up filter and nd on the front of the elmo. Had some issues with my cheap card dropping frames so the samsung t5 ssd holder is back on duty slung underneath. Has anyone found a usb 3 cable with a 90 degree end ?

  36. From DPREVIEW.COM "On March 2nd, Steptoe, a leading international law firm, secured a major trial victory for Autel Robotics USA at the US International Trade Commission (ITC). The ITC's chief administrative law judge found that SZ DJI Technology Co. Ltd., the world's largest manufacturer of consumer drones, and 7 related entities collectively known as 'DJI,' violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended. DJI has been importing and selling drones that infringe on Autel's US Patent No. 9, 260,184. The ITC's chief administrative law judge recommended barring the following DJI products from importation into the United States: the Mavic Pro, Mavic Pro Platinum, Mavic 2 Pro, Mavic 2 Zoom, Mavic Air, and Spark. The judge also recommended a cease and desist order prohibiting DJI from selling any of these products that are already in the U.S. when the exclusion order issues. If upheld, all of these products could be removed from the U.S. market as early as July. Autel scored another victory with the ITC. DJI was forced to post a 9.9% bond during the 60-day presidential review period following the exclusion order. Autel also filed a petition to prevent other DJI products from being sold including the Phantom 4 and Inspire series of drones. It is worth noting that DJI's Inspire 1 and most of its Phantom 4 line has been discontinued, with the exception of the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. The Spark and original Mavic Pro models are also no longer produced." https://m.dpreview.com/news/5298432342/judge-rules-dji-infringed-patent-recommends-ceasing-sales-and-imports-of-most-dji-drones
