  1. Despite the monster. specs and the exciting features, I don't think they'll price this over $4,500 USD. I'd guess above the 5D range, but not in the 1DX range (something like $3899 USD would be my guess). While this has "better" specs than the 1DX Mark III, I think it is more in line with the 5D range and many people who buy the 1DX series do so because of the giant battery life, extreme durability, and tank-like size, not so much 5.5k Raw recording and megapixel count. While I'm sure the R5 will be durable and weather sealed, you'd probably still want a 1DX on the sideline of an NFL game or on safari if on assignment.

  2. Leica haven't responded to anybody about it. Tons of users with the same issue https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/306288-4k-recording-with-low-battery/ It's disgraceful. I want a refund! Or a working camera. Whichever comes first.

  3. I agree with @heart0less that sales is sales, but also with @hk908 that content is content, and Waqas certainly puts the content in the videos. Every time I see a YouTuber flogging some brand or other I do recoil slightly, but then I remember that TV was full of ads for things I had no interest in whatsoever that went on for whole minutes at a time and did so every few minutes of content. I'd rather see a content creator promoting their own materials, or having one ad in their video than having to watch clusters of ads where everything about it was turned up to 11 to try and get me to hear it from the next room when I went to get a drink!

  5. I do too... I also remember how hard people were on the RED camera person. Apparently, if you: 1. Know how to get the most out of your camera. 2. Are in a controlled studio environment so you can compensate for weaknesses in your camera’s dynamic range with lighting. 3. Have color grading skills so you can further compensate for weakness in your camera’s dynamic range with power windows. There is the distinct possibility that you can evoke an emotional response out of your audience that competes with the response to cameras that cost 10 times as much or more. I think this is equally true today if some were skilled with a pocket 6k or GH5, lighting and color grading vs someone less skilled with a RED.

    Fuji X-T4

Absolutely underrated. IBIS is on par with S1H. And I fell in love with it's autofocus using Z lenses (have 50mm and 24-70 f4). Never thought I would, but they did it right definitely giving video shooters some thought - lenses practically don't breath, focus absolutely silently, and there's no hunting, transitions are smooth. There was so much hate and misinformation about Z6 from the beginning. And Nikon are so incapable of marketing the strengths of their products, it almost makes you cry...

    Canon M50 - Magic Lantern

On the contrary, ML is thriving. You can't go by that nightly build page, as that is not where the action is. Most of the nightly builds that everyone uses are not official. To see the current activity, go to the main forum page, and scroll down to the bottom section titled, "Recently Updated Topics." After a brief scanning of just a few of the top messages, I see the following active developers: Danne, masc, cmh, Levas, ilia3101, reddeercity, 2blackbar, critix. Our own @ZEEK is active with ML and MLV-App instructional videos.

  10. The MagicLantern project is pretty much dead - the last nightly builds are from July 2018: https://builds.magiclantern.fm/ There are only some (or just one?) individual developers who keep hacking individual camera ports and offering their own builds off-site.

    Fuji X-T4

I wonder if they updated it or is it a completely new feature. There is no assist on X-T3, unfortunately, and the "Natural Live View" thing that's supposed to properly display F-LOG / HLG on camera, seriously messes with zebra readings. Things, that weren't even near clipping point in HLG preview, are lit up like a Christmas tree after enabling it. Overall, I find Fuji's zebras quite too conservative. There were times when I had to slightly overexpose the image and I was getting a lot of zebra'ed areas, but after importing the footage to Resolve, I saw that those areas weren't clipped at all, even though I've got my zebras set up to 100% (can't go higher than that). Sure, it was a nice surprise, though I'd rather have a tool that I can trust and if it tells me something is clipped, then it truly should be.

  14. Ignoring how poor the photos are (this old 70-150mm lens is very ordinary, I can take it back and get my money back but better to not let it back out in the wild again). The filter looks a lot better on a 50mm lens but I do not have any anymore (will get a cheap one soon i guess). Near wide open with filter, without and stopped down without at 70mm. By rotating the front ring of the filter it effectively changes from four rays to two (it is freezing out so I just went out my front door for minute or so).

  15. To be honest I don't think it means very much. The opinion of a colorist would be worth a lot more to me. That said for someone who shot most of his work on film its interesting to see he loved the image from the GH2. It definitely shows that the camera really doesn't matter that much if you light things well. People saying that they can spot the difference between 8 bit and 10 bit or 8 bit and 16 bit becomes irrelevant when 99% of the audience can't tell, especially considering 99% of the audience will undoubtable have less experience with film than Francis Ford Coppola. Of course on the other hand if you are dealing with tricky or natural lighting that's a completely different ballpark. I've noticed BTS from a lot of movies nowadays seem to be using much less lighting. I recall a scene from Tenent where all they had was a diffusion panel(or maybe it was a bounce, don't recall).

  17. Since it's such a spec beast, with no competition for the moment, I'm not surprised that it will be very expensive. My bet is over $5k.

  18. I remember that it highlighted how the big guys try to overstate and thus oversell the much higher priced gear. So that when Coppola chose the GH2, it created a huge furore. The outcome was that the Zacuto Shootout was completely scrapped. That was the last year of the shootout. Curiously, Panasonic never advertised this fact in its advertising (which like I've been saying the longest, is rather lack lustre). They could have sold the GH2 like crazy, just based on this fact alone. Also, curiously, while the 5D Mark ii sold extremely well as a video and photo shooter, the much cheaper GH2 seemed to find much fewer takers.

    Fuji X-T4

My biggest gripe with Z series was no internal Log. You also gotta go external for 10-bit & ProRes RAW. If Nikon addressed those three points and threw in 4K60p on a Mk2 they might be competing. But somehow I doubt anything is coming soon. Are there even rumors of a Mark II Z line?

  21. If the hyped up specs pan out, the 6K price would not be outrageous. It is a HALO product that will generate a a lot of buzz for the RF mount, just like their extremely expensive lenses. They just need a good R6 to sell to the masses. If yo are going to use 8K RAW, you shouldn't balk at that price either, since the expenses don't stop there.

Unfortunately no. I sold mine because of this, but I really miss it though. And I know some people aren’t even bothered by this, but just like you I found it too annoying to live with. Hopefully this gets remedied on the mark ii. And I really wish Nikon would release their compact primes already.

The Z6 keeps calling me also. Love everything about it except back up card slot (could live with that) and lack of 4K 60p, but otherwise just about perfect for my needs. And the ‘lack’ of lenses some talk about. Eh? Perfect line up for me personally. With it looking increasingly likely like zero weddings in France this season, it could be a contender for 2021...

To the rest who don't give a damn for kids trying to play the adult game and have the pro label right into the business card, can we enjoy some imagerie by Autel without risk to meet DJI trolls in disguise of nasty boys? LOL : -) More here by user fotofletch on Flickr Hope their new 1-inch 6K Autel Evo 2 (full pixel readout, no line skipping, no pixel binning) may bring this out from stills realm closer to video.

  27. I doubt that the battery can be improved to the point that a replacement will not suffer the same problem ... lack of current from a very power hungry camera ... the should have had an external power point ... not just the USB-C input. However ... this may be a potential solution ... https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1316194-REG/tether_tools_crdtap_d_tap_connector_to_usb.html I use this to run from d-tap off my AB Gold mount batteries ... in my case I can go 2.5A to USB-C or use the Tether Tool Case Relay kit to a battery insert ... the advantage of the Case Relay is that it allows hotswapping of the battery due to an inline small battery that charges while you power the camera. They also have a powerbank battery that supplies 26,800mA and 87W: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=tether tools power bank&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ps Shame to sideline such a beautiful camera ... do not expect that Leica will rectify this ... one of the reasons I sold my SL and replaced it with a different camera manufacturer.

Still on my radar for my next hybrid system. A second generation of bodies, and a few more lens options can make it absolutely right. R5/R6 are scary though..

I think you still need to send them in and pay the fee If only they could figure out what Apple is doing with their apps. Must be a trick to it somehow. I just can't quite put my finger on it... Something to do with a world wide web type store thing? and encrypted payments??!

    Fuji X-T4

So very true Still sets a high bar nearly 6 years later. Especially with the high bitrate hack. That is a very good lens by the way, incredibly sharp for a zoom. Fuji's lenses are fantastic, however the Samsung version of that zoom was a stop faster at the wide end and had OIS. I notice the X-T4 IBIS has a mode which combines OIS and sensor stabilisation BTW. You should try the Fringer EF mount adapter for the Z6. The AF is like dual pixel AF. Works much more reliably than the Techart e-mount adapter did. The Z6 remains a very underrated tool. I think the problem is that almost all the competition is more interesting in one way or another and the body design make it look like a cheap Nikon 1 series thing. Yeah, I'm not warming to the feel of it either. X-Pro 3 and X-H1 far nicer and pro-feeling. The whole thing is covered in soulless, thin, faux leather. The way that fake leather covers the entire back of the LCD when it's closed - UGH. What were the thinking. X-T4, for want of a better word just feels a bit cheap? A bit clinical? Not as fun? Yet it has all the right features in the right place... Just played at a slightly tinny tone. I feel it will improve with a nice cage and wooden grip like SmalRig offers for certain cameras, such as the Sigma Fp. The shallow grip is woeful on the X-T4. The buttons feel no better than an X-T200. It's a bit of a shame, because the flip out screen, EVF, and new movie / stills switch are all good handling features. The X-H1 dialled down (no pun intended) the retro stuff and got it right. Why the X-T4 simply didn't just adopt the X-H1 body I have no idea. There doesn't need to be two lines at the moment. The one thing I DO like about the shutter dial is it's quick to go from 180 degree shutter to auto. I have 1/50 on T, Bulb uses minimum shutter speed in low light for video, and A is effectively an aperture priority mode for me. The ISO dial doesn't do it for me. Would rather have it on a jog wheel like normal. I find it depends a lot on the lens. Some of Fuji's best lenses like the 23mm F1.4 have old fashioned grinding motors and moving barrels during AF. They are extremely loud for video shooting and slower than the internal focussing lenses like the zooms. Fuji needs to update their primes and it was a stupid decision in the first place to put such old AF tech in the lenses. On the camera body side I feel the AF is fundamentally good but still not as reliable as it should be for video. I also like the Micro Four Thirds 1.95x crop mode at ALL resolutions and frame rates F-LOG is great for maximum dynamic range, at least 12-stops by eye, and the view assist works well too although could use a contrast adjustment slider. It does take longer to open out than a tilt screen, but it's horses for corses...pros and cons. The GH2 had one. I loved it, never had a problem with it. The finger hole to undock it and the mechanism is a bit too stiff and fiddly on the X-T4 though. The Nikon Z6 I think is a bit of a Canon EOS R6 type camera, if that is how we expect it to turn out - not quite a 1D X III with RAW and 5.5K but 4K at normal frame rates, a good all rounder, with good colour and decent AF with EF lenses (Fringer adapter). I feel the X-T4 neither has the nimbleness or fun of an NX1, but it doesn't lack for features that's for sure. It feels like Fuji has one set of designers on X-H1 / GFX 100 and another set on X-T series. One side is designing pro cameras, the other side is a bunch of hipsters with their retro ISO dials and should be fired.

Honestly if Fuji could get their stabilization to Panasonic level, fix the stepping exposure, and have unlimited recording they'd be a really compelling option for my work. I love the image so much from everything I'm seeing. I like their colors more than Canon.

  34. Thanks, yeah absolutely love the results from it. Nikon 24-70 f2.8G in 4:4:4. First shot is at 6400 with some noise reduction (forgot to go back to native after doing some tests indoors). "Is it possible to output 444 and record 422" Depends on the recorder. Also I forgot to mention, make sure to run Auto Black Balance on your camera before using it. I had what I thought was a dead pixel until I ran it.

  37. Hi All - Been a long time contributor and fan here. I had a bunch of work canceled due to Covid-19, but decided to create a web series based on the weird world of Quarantine Life. I've done 5 episodes so far and am putting out at least two a week for the foreseeable future, depending on when this all loosens up. Enjoy! If you like it, feel free to subscribe to see more every few days. Thanks!

  38. I have the exact same issue and I am using bother the Panasonic 24–70/2.8 and the 70-200/2.8 L Mount lenses and shooting video is a total crap shoot. So I decided to focus more on stills with the camera and when using high burst mode I had the exact same issue i reached out to Leica USA last November and have gotten a response from them
