Haha... another hopeful... The enthusiast crowd are very vocal, but Canon knows that its all talk and no walk... Their bread and butter are consumers... and who do the Consumers follow??? The pros... Even if the enthusiasts were able to sway the pros or the general publics opinion, then you get some crippled version of what what we really want.... only 4K/24p with 1.5 crop.... no 1080/24p.... no 1080/120.... so and so forth. Just look at the RP as an example... its not going to be better than that...

Truth. For them it's like taking candy from a baby. Why make the effort, when you can sit back and still watch the money come in. Though you'd think at some point we've hit the point of no return, when they seriously miscalculated their luck and it finally runs out and are surpassed from all sides by the competition with people now jumping over to the latest greatest shiny toy to never look back. Though, admittedly I'm getting my first Canon in years with the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Sure, in true Canon fashion it lacks 24p, rather than Canon's own benchmark DPAF it has quite shoddy contrast based C-AF, does have a mic-in, but nowhere to place an external mic for instance... but Sony doesn't exactly come through with their RX100-series either and the latest Panasonic LX100 iteration was a laughable update. The thing seems killer for social media content creation, maybe not the best thing for actual video production and cinematography, but then again it's a compact cam for crying out loud. Canon is pretty much the epidemy of 'point-n-shoot'. And we live in a world where videos shot on shaky potatoes go viral, so, picture quality really isn't the end all when you've got the right content. It's more about going the shortest distance from hitting the record button to the upload one (saves you time endlessly pixel peeping/grading/managing storage etc too) and that's where they're winning the crowd over. They're the no0b's choice. But I have no interest whatsoever in their EOS-M or EOS-R line-ups. For actual video production and cinematography I'd still pick up a feature-rich Panasonic.

Finally got a bit to take a walk and shoot on a hot/grey evening on Sunday. Had a lot of fun putting this together and am ready for more challenges/different stipulations or price brackets hahaha Or just round 2 of this same challenge

Mathieu Stern is one of my favorite YouTubers because he collects weird/old lenses and adapts them to use on mirrorless cameras. My Papa used to have this same camera so this was so cool to see! I actually think it produces a really elegant or ethereal image. Good stuff! Anyway many of you are probably aware of Mathieu but for those that aren't I figured I'd share!

I was originally planing to shoot a short "music video" for one of my vocal cover. However, an event very bad happened to my city and the region I live so I didn't have the opportunity to do a proper video. Luckily I have brought the camera with me on a half-day trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. I was filming my girlfriend, as usual, and her good friend. I wasn't planing to use these footage for the challenge, so... hopefully I wouldn't get the last place because I really like this new camera! Anyway, this is a very fun competition indeed. Would love to take part again!

IMO, It's not as accurate as MF, doesn't understand when you want to track something else, can't change speed without digging into the menu, doesn't work on manual lenses, messes up your grip, the list goes on. Again, no excuses, just don't care about it working or not. My workhorse is equiped with the best video AF there is. Never use it. I haven't seen anybody make such excuses. I know perfectly well how it works thank you. Btw, you don't get to dictate why others reason the way they do. No one said you weren't allowed to wish for good AF in the Panasonic. You can wish it to give you a golden shower for all I care. We just have our opinion on it.

Put a Moment Anamorphic on that bitch and go shoot a film.

@mercer I have used the Rokinon 12mm f/2 extensively, I really like it. Tiny, bright, plenty sharp, great minimum focus distance, a no-brainer really. Flares are a little bit messy. Mine got damaged somehow and the internal focusing elements got all messed up, but after I took it to a lens technician the infinity focus is bang-on so it's a cinch to get shots really quickly. Here are a couple stills that I think show off the versatility of the lens, flares, bokeh, etc.

I mainly use GH5 and EVA1 for my professional work so I don't really have a choice. It is full manual focus for me. But this is because the auto focus of these cameras are quite bad and extremely bad, respectively. Sometimes I missed having decent auto focus system. Especially when I have to hand the camera to my friends (who come to help me for my job), and they are used to working with Canon or Sony cameras. I even had one time when my best friend filmed the whole event totally out of focus! Manual focus vs auto focus essentially depends on one's own preference. IMO.

My guess is that the HLG is only available in 24/25p or 30p though (same as the S1), since, unfortunately you can't use it for 60p, so as far as dynamic range goes you'd be limited to however much you could tweak the built in profiles.

Canon can release just about anything if it has: The Canon brand. Canon Dual pixel AF. Canon color science.

At some point Canon has to be competitive, X-T3/30 and a6400/500 are a lot better than anything Canon has to offer right now and m43 is a lot better in video and competitive in stills, while FF mirrorless are getting cheaper and cheaper.. It is hard to believe some of these rumors though..sound more like wishful thinking than real world possibilities, but on the other hand, I believe they exhausted on sales the abilities of their hardware. Now they need to compete in every segment they can. I understand that the manufacturers consider the sensor size as an indication for pricing/performance. A FF camera will be always priced more and considered better than an APS-C one. Depending the additional features of course, or the lack of them.

I do a few photo jobs per year and that is exactly how I use LR. I have a free standalone version from the NX cameras (yes, they were offering LR for free also!) I own, and I edit every photo on its own. I found the LR controls the easiest to work in the industry. Lumetri is trying to imitate that process but it isn't not even 90% there yet.

Not sure what they will do. But highly doubt the 90D will be a mirrorless EF mount camera. That would effectively hurt their R mount platform and lenses. Another rumour is that this 90D will replace the 7D2 and 80D, have dual sd card, clean HDMI and 4k cropless recording. Kind of feels to good to be true for the 80D price point. Would indeed hurt their full frame as the new sensor and specs would be better than the much more expensive 5D4.

Spent a whopping £25 on shipping to get it here in time!! Now to go shoot ?

Very nice! Absolutely! @Jonesy Jones you should actually consider that! Moment is a lens company that makes clip-on lenses for smartphones and the like. They make some anamorphic lenses that you should be able to use with your iPad. They're not free, but they're probably under 10% of what it costs (in time and money) to get the next cheapest anamorphic setup

In my experience (I haven't had much time to really stress test the camera) there are problems with horizontal pattern noise in the shadows, and underexposing is a recipe for trouble. The dynamic range is definitely not as much as the Ursa Mini 4.6k which I used to use. Still a nice image though if you expose it correctly. The high frame rates above 120fps also suffer from pretty bad aliasing. However the weird warping and flickering in that video is certainly something done to it in post, or else his camera should be returned as faulty.

That might very well be the case. I suppose if they filmed in 24 or 30, then tried to slow it way down in post, that might cause some of those problems. Although, I saw a short film that someone posted on here earlier today from the E2 and I see problems all through the shadow areas in that footage, but I didn't the temporal type problems. I would really love to see some of that footage straight from the camera I like the idea of being able to shoot 4k/120 or 4k/160, even if it is at weird sizes, so I wish them the best.

it looks to me like there is artifacting in there due to time warping. I suggest it was shot at a lower framerate.

Have used Q5 exclusively on a dozen or so commercial projects to date. Did extensive testing of all flavors of Braw. Q5 is amazing and over 40 minutes on a simple Sandisk SD card.

Sometimes I like it sometimes I don't. Getting a bride walking down an aisle at f2 on a long lens is hard without it though.

It seems clear to me that it is not the camera that has those serious problems, but a bit of inconpentence in post ...

50mm f/2 and 56mm f/1.2 when I have a plan. 18-55mm f2.8-4 when I don't have one. Honestly, the other two I have (35mm f/2 and 23mm f/2) are great, too. It's all a matter of choosing the right focal length for the subject. I don't feel any are optically superior to the others.

Just like Dan, I've also been a long time lurker of the blog and the forums, and the challenge seemed fun. I shot this yesterday and edited it in the evening. I think it turned out OK. Unfortunately I didn't have an ND, so that meant infinite DoF and fast shutter speeds.

Cheers for sharing the footage! Did a quick grade in Resolve (20 min) using @Sage GHa conversion lut. Some adjustments to white balance and luma here and there. Overall very impressed.

Hello all, I am lucky to find this thread and spend hours to read from page 1 I am a canon user 5d Mark iv, and part-time photographer/filmmaker, I have invested canon glass almost 5 Canon L lenses. I am now looking to 4k film and not happy with canon reason is Crop, no 60fps, and huge file size. I also have Ronin-s which I use for the film. Here is the type of films I do *below Youtube Link* > shot with 5div 1080 50fps, I have used EOS-R and not happy with it as it also has CROP and no smooth 60fps option, i am seriously considering Fuji x-T30 knowing that again I have to buy few Fuji lenses. My daily go to gear is 2.8 24-70 & 70-200 zoom lens, Ronin-S & Handheld video bites, 5div, low light indoor party film Highlight videos. Max ISO I use 2000 to 2500 with 2.8 lenses, Love touch screen on 5d for focus and almost all my shooting is with Auto Focus. With Xt3 I am not worrying of in body stabilisation or APS-C. Can someone please help me to make my decision: ? Would it be good or this kind of videos? Is XH-1 better for me than Xt3? Is Autofocus god to track subjects in low light? Noise & AF in low light? Any things I need to worry about? Can I use Canon glasses with Adapter if so anyone tried how AF is good with Adapter for video? Heard new firmware improves many things inc Focus. Is it good in video AFocus? Thanks a lot Vamsi

Yeah, I'm on the ~$10pm photography plan which gives you PS and LR. The LR panels are pretty optimised I think. Their target users are people who do weddings and need to process images really quickly and efficiently. By the time you go through the sliders, and setup local adjustment brushes for things like under-eyes (lighten shadows, reduce clarity), brighten eyes (increase vibrance, sharpen), flattering skin (reduced clarity), and a couple of dodge/burn presets, you can process images at a pretty quick pace.

Don't see it. Sounds like you aren't watching in full screen, that sometimes introduces false moire.

I used to be a champion for AF and was looking at buying an A7III because of its AF until I discovered that I actually like the aesthetic of MF. This lead me down the path of GH5 with manual lenses and I've never looked back. I particularly like the very human and analog feel of MF, and its imperfections (which are especially prevalent when I do it!). I am completely in love with the aesthetic I get from the GH5 and I think the imperfect MF is a real contributor to that, as I think it suits the emotional/nostalgic feeling I want for the home videos that I make. The fact that I stopped being frustrated by poor AF is also a bonus, the number of times I was just standing there holding the camera watching the moment go by while silently screaming "focus you @#$@#$" probably had a measurable impact on my average blood pressure...

I think people are confusing f-stops and t-stops. The f-stops--the physical size of the lens opening--are the same. They have not changed them. The t-stops--the objective amount of light being transmitted through that opening--are less, due to the lack of coatings.
