  3. Hi Hans: Using a good diopter will definitely improve the closeup image performance of a single-focus attachment, since it allows the attachment itself to be used closer to its "zero aberration" infinity setting. I'm not entirely sure what you are describing about the highlight blob ghosting effect. Most single focus attachments use a plano-concave moving front element followed by a convex-plano stationary element. The concave surface of the front element is normally very close in radius to the convex surface of the stationary element, and this could set up a pair of reflections that might cause the effect you are seeing. Its also possible that a reflection from the sensor followed by a reflection from either or both of the plano surfaces can cause noticeable ghosting, although in this case I would expect sharply focused mirror-image type ghosts. Regardless of the root cause of the ghosting, its appearance can be reduced, but not completely eliminated, by using better AR coatings.

    Some great colors

Lol, any more of a typo, and we would have had a problem.. I looooved Whiplash. I had doubts when i heard about La La Land, but this could be crazy good Something about that first scene especially, immediately told me it was film. Vibrant but "ungraded", with true blacks, that you'd at least struggle to get with the DR powerhouses of today

    Some great colors

Me Sony F65 or Alexa are IMO the best you can get colour-wise on a digital camera.

  6. Just watched Listen Up Phillip - shot on handheld 16mm. Beautiful colours and a real retro feel.

    Some great colors

Jackie, shot on 16mm is also looking really really nice. More muted in comparison but not that dead muted Sony look everyone tries to defend. Looks so smooth.

    Wedding videography advice

I'm about to order this mic for the pocket. It's cheap and plugs discreetly into the mic port. Obviously not great for any real sound, but it'll increase the quality of the onboard sound and actually make it usable. Handy for weddings, and one of the reasons why I avoided using the pocket before.

  10. Joining a forum and lying about your intentions is a really a shitty way to market your product. If you want to get the word out about your products in a forum, do a Q&A in a thread or something - and BE HONEST about your intentions.

  11. To be honest, I just downloaded it for free (don't want to promote piracy but I'm glad I didn't buy it) in a 2015 link and unless they re-done the LUT, it affects any color that resembles the skintones. Here's an example below. As you can see the highlights are also affected (warm +6 lut) so I still have to key the skintones if I want to change the highlights. This is 8 bit footage from G7 for anyone asking.

  12. I try to shoot old style to keep a certain look through the whole product. That is, full Manual control with 180º shutter at 24fps. Aperture is cemented at F8. And yes, I really like deep DOF. For me, only ISO is variable. I don't mind a grainy shot. But if I'm indoors, I'll ad some light myself or move my subject to available light. I've found that keeping variables fixed, save for ISO, saves a lot of time in the field. (Setting with APS-C sized cameras. Could change with other sensors)

The 4K Fuji X-T2 is here

Ah, appreciate the direct link. That is definitely a lot nicer. After having played with Andrew's EOSHDPro color on my A6300, I'm returning to my NX1 as it's just easier to get great color from it since the AWB is accurate. Love everything I'm seeing about the Fuji except there is no constant f/2.8 lens with OIS yet so I'll just keep waiting. It's also a shame that there's no 120fps slo mo or articulating screen.

  14. Sounds like you could've been Parker Walbeck. Devin Graham's trusty shooter. Man, I'm waiting on the Instamics to ship out! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/instamic-the-smartest-microphone-ready-to-record-video-music#/

    Wedding videography advice

Nope, definitely not. Only Mormons can go inside, and certainly no filming or anything like that would be allowed. For a typical Utah Mormon wedding video I film a romantic/stylized bridals session/first look thing, b-roll of the temple grounds, which are always very lovely, then the couple coming out of the temple to family cheering, hugs, etc. Then it's off to the reception for the cake/garter/bouquet/dancing and exit. And they're all just exactly like that, so sometimes it's hard to make them seem different. It's nice not to have to worry as much about the audio of all the speeches and ceremonies and more traditional wedding stuff like the rest of y'all though.

  16. At least make the effort to post a minimum 100 times a few months in advance of known product promotion day. Funnily enough, Andrew's colour settings have been dissed by two different first time posters in the last 24 hours...

  17. If you're not going to use an external recorder, and you don't need 96fps, then 95% likely that the best choice for you is a G85

    Film School

This debate gets brought up every once in a while. Now, I haven't been, but the general concensus I believe always was: film school isn't useless, though, it's not really about the material that's being taught. It's working on things together and connecting with people that you might stay in contact with for years after graduating. For that it's quite useful. A degree on your resume does look cool, but it's not the thing that sells your skillset and level of talent. A list of productions you've worked on and a filmreel will do that for you. Think it's more about being good at networking and selling yourself, than what some paper says... so... you can start learning things you might already know... or work on getting actual field experience. One is not better than the other, you got to walk your own path, if that includes film school, that's cool, if it doesn't, that's cool too.

  20. Yeah you want to avoid like the plague any of the studio versions that BMD sells, unless.... well, you want to set up a studio! ;-) Then it is going to be just great for that purpose.

  21. If Panasomic pushes the boundaries with the GH5, it's because they have no other choice but to. They relinquished their #3 spot in mirrorless market share to Canon last year. They need to either be bold, or make microwaves.

  22. Sound either makes video or kills it . $128 add to a $6K cam seems like a bargain ... I have a Rode NTG 3 and an AKG 414XLS both driven well with the Device. 414 XL has 5 patterns easily selected. Bob

  23. I have a Mk II and I did some extensive tests with external ProRes recorder. There is tiny bit of improvement but for me it was not nearly worth the upgrade in file sizes. If I were shooting a 30 second spot that was going to be on television I'd probably use it. Check out what this guy has been doing with the Mark II. Great spots!
