  1. Remember the 7D II is a stills camera. If you look around the comments sections of photography sites it generally appears to be a very exciting release. Us video shooters have plenty of other options, so there's not much point in an article boo hooing about how it's lacking in the video department - 80% of the camera's target audience couldn't care less. All they need is 1080p - and even then there's plenty to be going on with what with all the different framerates and codec modes available on it.

    Canon 7D Mark II

Haha! This should be your article about the 7D Mark II.

  3.   It isn't that simple. No line skipped or pixel binned 1080p from a 20MP sensor will EVER look cleaner than 1080p from a 4K source file.

  4. Looks like the GH4 still owns it in every category including bitrates, slowmo, flip touchscreen, 4k, 12fps photo rate, zebras/peaking etc.

  5. I'm very happy I sold all my Canon equipment and lenses to switch to Panasonic in April. With G6 I can use old Canon FD lenses, with my Canon 70d I could'nt! And now, with GH4 I'm really more then happy! It's all thanks to Andrew, because I started to think to m4/3 after I saw some videos of Berlin! :) 7d MkII?? What we are talkin' about?! ;)

    Canon 7D Mark II

Nothing angers me more than to see so much innovation go unnoticed by the masses who continue to buy unoriginal big-brand greyness for more money.   Anyone paying $1800 for this camera and shooting video when they could be using a GH4 is simply nutty.

  8. It would be fine for me too, but I wonder how well the existing NX lenses perform on this body. We'll have to wait and see, as we don't have too many options here.

  9. samples now: +10 achromat and two 0.6x wide angle adapters = much shorter travel between achromat and wide angle block = less vignetting, less breathing (but still there) + keeping infinity focus intact. All the shots close focus to between 1 to 5 feet. Also built a wonky PVC housing, so while the elements are aligned better, they're still a little off.

  10. HDMI is 4:2:2 8-bit. ISO performance is unlikely to outperform the best 24MP sensors, so I expect usable 6400 images with 12800 as an emergency option. If the AF is like the NX30 it will be plenty competent. Not sure how it will do in video, or whether it will have the Olympus E-M1's issue. I'm having a good laugh at the control layout though - it reminds me of both Canon and Nikon.

  12. Well since we're hammering away at this, I'll chime in. I'm all for the democratization of technology. I saw these (FM whosawhatzit) and immediately started pouring over patents and the such, shortly finding that Iscos are afocal blocks with a variable diopter in the front. So here we have to individuals capitalizing on this "revelation." God Bless America. I, on the other hand, and planning on finding a cheaper solution with some "surplus" (surplusshed.com) and some shoddy test builds. Lucky for me, I have a friend that currently has a satellite (imaging, of course) in orbit and he's more than happy to hash out some details. Once I have some concrete findings, I'm sharing it with the world wide web. Every creative can benefit from this. Preach on @tonydtv!

  16. As long as you're not zooming in the shot, bit of adjustment in post will let them intercut just fine. The 4K codec grades very well.
