  2. Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at the Lindy cable, but on Amazon it's only listed as supporting 1080. I see it's listed as 4K on Lindy's website, so I'll give it a go.
  3. I am using 8sinn cage after Smallrig. More expensive, but way better clamp for mini HDMI. I also use the 8sinn cable.

  5. What do you mean by "live?" Do you mean live as its recorded or live as its played? I suggest for clarification we refer to monitoring as its recorded or as it is played, it's less confusing that way (to me!). Ultimately, you will need to do what @BTM_Pix suggested originally, which is record to a buffer, and selectively play out of that buffer. Essentially, record 4 seconds of audio to a file, slow that file down, and then play it over the next 16 seconds. You can continue to do this until you run out of file space. At that point, you have two streams of audio: A. the one being recorded, and B. the one being played (which is always 4x the length of stream A). I assume the question isn't how to monitor either of those. So I originally thought what you were trying to do is listen to the audio that you are recording, in a rough approximation of what it will sound like after it is slowed down. To do this, every 4 seconds, you listen to the 1st second slowed down to fill the whole 4 seconds. If this is the case, then all you need to do is introduce a third audio stream C, which is exactly the same as stream B, but only plays every 4th group of 4 seconds. This will monitor in real time as audio is recorded, with a slow down effect so you know what it will sound like later when it plays (although you won't be able to listen to all of it). However, you drew a diagram which implies you are listening to normal speed audio, but only listening to 1 second every 4 seconds, the exact opposite of my original thought. So that would also work, but obviously you are listening to audio significantly after it was recorded. So that would bring me to this question: what does meaningful mean to you? What are you trying to hear and adjust for in the audio? So to be clear, this is music being played on site, not a pre-recording of music? I ask because if both the video and audio are being recorded at the same time, and slowed in the same way, they should stay in sync already. So if a band is playing and you are shooting it with an HFR camera and audio, and you project the video in another room with that same audio, both slowed down, then they will be in sync.
  6. One option if you want interactive is having instant slomo button that will play back the last set of time in slow motion. Or trigger a recording that then gets played back. As for audio a good place to start is Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch made to stretch audio out to extreme lengths (hence the name). Here linked in a portable form so you don't have to install anything. I'm pretty sure there would be some sort of version that exists with command line api to better suit your needs. https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/paul_stretch_portable
  7. I was honestly surprised how bad the iPhone looks sometimes. Seems to do well with close ups, but wide shots look nasty. The sharpening is pretty terrible. I was expecting more. That said maybe there are after market apps that can improve the look, maybe bypass internal sharpening?? Otherwise its a hard no. The HDR seems to have a weird effect on the footage sometimes too, like it degrades the image further.
  8. I’ve looked for this before and I haven’t found it. The metadata for video files in particular is just...pathetic. I wished it saved at least: the name of the lens (if recognized), if it was a VFR video, at least the focal length the video was started at, the aperture it was started at, and shutter speed/angle it was started at. It makes using features like smart bins / keywords in NLE or using Finder keyword searches useless Maybe someone knows more? UPDATE: Apparently this tool https://sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ will allow you to see this metadata but for some reason I don't see this in Finder or in Final Cut Pro or Davinci.
  9. Costco, in the last 3-4 years, has stocked the previous gen GoPro's when the new model is introduced. They have a fresh stock of the 7 now, I just saw a new display a few days ago. Same when Canon and Sony discontinue cameras, they get sold off in massively discounted Costco kit lens bundles. Though lately Sony seems to have stopped discontinuing cameras and just keeps dropping prices after each new version is released, so I haven't seen one in awhile. If you don't live near a Costco, YMMV. As to the 7, I have two, other than the occasional lockup and thermal shutdown when shooting timelapses in direct sunlight, I haven't had any issues. All of my usage is under the hot Florida sun, or underwater. I've been happy with mine. Chris

    Formula 1 cameras ?

I just got a SD hard disc drive handycam for $5 (Australian) just in case the opportunity arises ...40x optical zoom (not stabilised). It seems that all the reviews when it released 11 or so year ago say Nice little easy to use camera let down by one thing .....its video is not very good (or more like barely useable SD video). Got a nice cheap tripod to use it on so all I need now is a motor race (and track)!
  11. I did not say it was a hybrid, I said it was meant to fill the video camera mode of a hybrid.
  12. There will be certain times of the day where you can not record video or take photos because of the lighting conditions, so you have to make do with the times of day you are working with unless you bring in more light. I am struggling with learning this but I'll say it anyway, be fine with 0 Likes and 10 views and even 1000 dislikes. You tried your best.

I had the Pentax-M SMC 50mm f/1.4, but it was the non-Takumar Asahi version (hey, if they can make beer goggles, they can probably make some funky lenses xD). Was my favorite for quite a while. (^^,)
  14. My best footage I filmed in North Carolina from 2015-2019. I shot on a GH4 and the GH5 in 4k with the scenery setting. I filmed 1.75x in 16:9 and 4:3 and 1.5x in 16:9 Anamorphic Lens used : 1. Baby Hypergonar 1.75x 2. Bolex 8/19 1.5x anamorphot 3. Bolex 16/32 1.5x anamorphot Taking lens: Voigtlander 40mm f2, Schneider-Kreuznach 50mm f/1.9 Xenon, Olympus Zuiko Pen 38mm f/1.8, Schneider Xenoplan 28mm f2, and a MeVis 35mm f1.6 Variable diopters used: 1. Rectilux 3FF-S 2. Proto DNA 3. Focuser 8 I also used a Tokina +0.4 Achromatic, Fujinon +0.7 and a Narumi +3 diopter for close up shots. If there is a shot you like let me know and I will tell you the combo. Cheers!
  15. Yeah definitely wouldn't want to use it for any serious photography work. Definitely targeted towards the SLR run and gun market to an extent though.
  16. Hollywood/Western Station FTW! Thanks for the link! Some of those shots are beautiful.
  17. It's the same as it works on Sony for SLOG ISO640 base iso for vlog is underexposed ISO100 by 2.66EV, and adjusted gamma. Why 640? because with VLOG the 32% grey lands where it should with proper exposure and the highlight DR till clipping is counted from middle grey. The base ISO values are measured like this, and this is the reason why the (base) ISO values differ in different picture styles. So in photo mode RAW: ISO100 / ISO640 are the base ISO values HLG: ISO400/2500 VLOG: ISO640/4000
  18. I disagree that it's a hybrid. Just because it has a form factor more similar to a photo camera doesn't mean it's a hybrid.
  19. Why did you apply a harsher curve in Premiere if you were trying to compare the two?
  20. Ah...hang on. What I've just shot doesn't follow any of them apart from the lens bit. I hadn't actually read them as I was primarily just here for the heckling regarding the Soviet sphere of influence post World War II. Oh well, in the bin it goes.
  21. i hope it lasts longer than 16 seconds 😎 i wanna be able to put my feet up and savior the experience

after the soviet challenge we may as well progress straight to the takumar challenge 😎
  23. I've applied harsh s-curves in both resolve studio 15 and premiere 2019. Seems like the artefacts can be found in both programs. Again, the premiere curve is harder, so the artefacts show better.

I'm envious of the concentration it takes for ENG and documentary shooters to think and edit in those conditions! Might be of interest to some people : https://www.live-production.tv/news/sports/gearhouse-broadcast-helps-take-sky-sports-f1-coverage-road.html https://www.svgeurope.org/blog/headlines/behind-the-scenes-sky-sports-coverage-of-the-british-grand-prix-at-silverstone/ https://www.wired.co.uk/article/formula-one-liberty-media-chase-carey-bernie-ecclestone It's mostly from the point of view of branding but it was still quite interesting to someone who has never thought about how outside broadcast works.
  25. at least follow all the rest of the rules!!!!
  26. Is the iPhone 11 Pro the perfect minimalist travel vlog camera? Spoiler: no. Double spoiler, some of the footage out of it looks terrible. I have a friend who lugs his 50D around the world even though he's a minimalist and hates carrying it around and all the hassle of memory cards and editing, but he's tried using his phone and however convenient it was, the only photos he likes came from the Canon. So it doesn't matter how much you like the shooting experience - if you don't like the output, what's the point?
