Team Panasonic:
I appreciate your being on facebook and twitter but frankly, those 'massive' sites, known for their slicing and dicing of personal data, are not my cup of tea... particularly when it comes to conversing with key vendors. I would much rather you interact with your user base on sites like EOSHD, etc. if for no other reason, they don't have the resources or interest, to connect my interest in photography to my health and census tract.
FYI: I would have to rate as one of your better customers. I run a hyperlocal community site in an Atlanta (GA) suburban county and have on hand a variety of lumix cameras such as (2) TZ1's, (3) FZ7's, (2) TZ5's, (1) FZ 18 and (2) FZ 28's ... and that is what I have left. I've sold customers one FZ7 and one FZ 8. I mainly use the cameras to collect video usually in VGA but also 720p for a local news show. Oh, and I forgot that I also employ 1 GS-120 and GS-180 camcorders for live-net casting from a streaming studio.
To EOSHD:
Found you while looking at the video hack for the GH1. My biggest question ... and I think it is a key one ... is whether the GH2 models will also be hackable. I know that the original firmware for the later models is different and does not include the option to record at 1080. If that limitation can be removed by a firmware hack on the new models, the benefit of the lower-cost G10 could be even greater.
The ability to interface through HDMI with a live feed (for recording or mixing) is another aspect I've seen mentioned as possible. That frankly opens up another whole new aspect for these (G2/G10) or even the camcorders. (I'm actually in the process of setting up a live production unit for streaming live sports events using something like six or seven VGA FZ's and TZ's ability to transmit live video through composite connections. )
Obviously there are a ton of applications Team Panasonic, and facebook, with its proprietary claws in what is posted there, is just no place to play.
I would just encourage you to make more effort in the smaller, more highly targeted sites like eoshd that cater to the true leaders in the field.
neomaxcom
Thanks for the kind words Neomaxcom.
I agree that Panasonic's marketing should concentrate on niche sites, but they want to capture the biggest haul with the biggest net possible.
I have always thought large companies miss new markets though, because they have a very diluted approach to market research and this misses emerging niches like DSLR video. I think DSLR video came to the market late and by accident, hardly a result of forward thinking.
If Panasonic have setup a big Facebook / Twitter marketing effort or a customer communication channel through these sites, I think it's a waste of money because it's frustrating for people to talk to Panasonic this way and only receive the usual robotic response back. At least on the phone you get a real person.
@NeoMaxCom & @EOSHD....
We hear ya. Some people have different preferences for the method in which they communicate with us - which is why we are making more of an effort to go to where you guys are, rather than the other way around. We have joined this forum, we have reached out to the Flickr community and created a group (http://flickr.com/groups/lumixlovers) and we have also begun registering on other forums like SeriousCompacts.com, DVXUser.com, MyCE.com, Forums.Steves-DigiCams.com, DPreview.com, Photo.Net and more!
We hope you find this useful and you can feel comfortable communicating with us. Feel free to reach out, ask questions or offer suggestions. We're here to help.
Best,
The Panasonic Team![]()
Thank you for replying - welcome to the social media world Panasonic, I am looking forward to seeing what you guys can offer us in terms of information and access to the company via these new channels. I am not interested in marketing related stuff though.
