Sony FS100 - replacement due?

A rumour surfaced today (which was given the 2nd highest rating of plausibility by Sony Alpha Rumors) that Sony have a new NEX video product to come before NAB.

Sony have confirmed they are strengthening the NEX range more than intended this year on the back of very strong sales.

So as well as new lenses on the roadmap will we see a new video camera?

Metabones Canon EF mount for Sony E-Mount / NEX

Pricing has been announced for the Canon C300. As expected it is $15,999. B&H are taking pre-orders for the PL mount version here and the EF mount C300 here. Both are the same price. Orders will ship 30th January.

This is great news for NEX 5N and FS100 owners. Suddenly that limited range of E-mount lenses have been supplemented by the entire Canon EOS range! Metabones are set to release a fully electronic interface adapter for Canon EF lenses to Sony e-mount (NEX 5N, FS100). Unlike the bulky MTF adapter it has electronic communication between the Sony body and Canon lens itself so you can adjust aperture on the camera. It also supports IS and requires no external power.

Try this for size - Sony NEX versus Nikon J1

More Nikon 1 images at Lenses.fr (French website)

In an interview with Imaging-Resource, Nikon general manager of R&D said that image quality (not size) was the number one priority for the Nikon 1 series and that the camera has been in development for 4 years, a process which began even before Panasonic’s work on Micro Four Thirds.

Has it been worth it? You are about to find out.

Panasonic have just announced the GF3 and EOSHD believes it marks the point where customers see through the compact ‘step-up’ Kool-Aid they’ve been sold. Just as in Hollywood after a series of bad 3D movies, customers have had enough.

UPDATE: The firmware was released in October, but only added the ability to control aperture during movie recording. We need control of shutter speed and ISO for it to be properly usable.

Source: German website Slashcam.de reports via Sony Alpha Rumors

Ichiro Takagi (Deputy President of the Imaging Business Group of Sony) today told a press conference at the IFA show in Berlin that manual video controls will be added, expressing his surprise at the reaction of customers to the lack of manual video controls.

The move follows an online campaign by EOSHD.com coinciding with the launch of the Sony A55 which pointed out the glaring omission from our perspective, of having such limited video controls! Sony followed this up with some damage limitation and then took the criticism on board.
