I did some more filming at the abandoned Spreepark in Berlin last weekend. Usually the amusement park is closed and patrolled by security, but an event took place last week with bands, art and some of the old rides operational again. You can read about that at the Guardian here.

“After the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, the attraction was renamed the Spreepark and taken over by a colourful West German family – two members of whom were jailed after 181kg of cocaine was found hidden inside the base of the 1001 Nights Magic Carpet Ride.”

Converge came around for 2011 last week and it was interesting to see both from a creative filmmaker perspective, and from a business point of view where DSLR video is at and more importantly where it is heading. It was also great to finally meet Kevin Shahinian, and to catch up with other key people in the resistance like Philip Bloom, Joe Simon, Robin Schmidt and Sam Morgan Moore amongst others. Great to meet you all.

According to data released by search engine giant Google, filmmaking is declining in popularity and will be overtaken by Philip Bloom in mid 2011.

Philip Bloom is gaining on filmmaking for the world’s attention because the British cinematographer sports a trendy hairstyle and enjoys a lot of self promotion! The trend of Bloom now has almost as many Google searches to his name than the industry itself.

Rather than getting bogged down over which DSLR has the best microphone socket and lug straps, and then discussing it for 7 days on a 500 page thread, some take the approach that I too prefer. Get your arse outside. Shoot something. Preferably not your arse!
