In a joint shootout with Slashcam in Berlin, EOSHD put the Blackmagic Cinema Camera into a bear pit against all rivalling cameras between $500 and $4000.

It was a clear day and the results are just as stark. Download the full 2.5K shootout video. Here’s my verdict on which camera you should buy – based purely on image quality.

Panasonic MFT Camcorder Prototype

A patent filing from 2009 and published on the 30th June 2011 reveals Panasonic have a prototype consumer camcorder with interchangeable lens mount!

JVC showed a prosumer / semi-pro camcorder at CES (rumoured to be around the $2K mark) with a near-4K image at 60p, and XLR audio jacks.

UPDATE – will Sony keep the box form factor? They have done it before with the Sony HDC-P1.

Sony have announced a $7k AVCHD camera with 24p and 35mm sensor. Aimed squarely at the AF100 and Red Scarlet, the boxy looking prototype gives little a way right now but I’m gathering more info as the story unfolds.

Sony have announced the specs, release date and price of their first interchangable lens consumer camcorder. Retailing in September at $2000 (including 18-200mm kit lens worth $800), the Sony VG10 is an interchangeable lens mount camcorder, available to pre-order today. “Targeting video enthusiasts and photographers, the NEX-VG10E opens up unprecedented artistic possibilities not achievable with conventional consumer video cameras.”
