Hello anamorphic shooters ! Here is my very first shots with the upcoming SLR Magic Anamorphot 2x ! Thanks for watching !

One week with SLR Magic Anamorphot 2x

on Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f1.9
on Canon FD 50mm f1.4 + Metabones Speed Booster
on Canon FD 35mm f2

As you can see the Canon FD work better than the Voigtlander
All the close up were taken without diopter except when it's written

GH4 UHD 4:3 
Cinelike V 0 -5 -5 -2 +2
Lumetri CC and levels adjustments

Everything was shot @f4 / f5.6 except some close shot @1.9 in the first part 

SLR Magic achromatic diopters +0.33, +1.3, +1.8
and Narumi achromatic +3 diopter

I like the flare. Still think something is missing from the "feel" though - could be the distortion bulge. (although maybe this is a good thing for 3d/compositing). It looks better than I thought, in general!

How is the focus mechanism?

Oh boy it is pretty soft... Some shots look ok but i skip this one i think and stick to my Iscorama's

How is the focus mechanism?

​The focus mechanic is like the one on the 1.33X, you can use it below 8 meters, and it gives the equivalence of a +1 diopter

Oh boy it is pretty soft... Some shots look ok but i skip this one i think and stick to my Iscorama's

 

​It's soft with the Voigtlander, but much better with the Canon, to my opinion. I advice you watching it in 4K, it's much better than Vimeo compression

those achromats really help things drastically.  flare is beautiful to my eyes - I love the coating choice slr magic used.

 

edges have a bit too much fringing to my eyes - especially since this was shot on gh4-4k.  what will it be like with s35>  probably even worse.  Overall though, this seems like some of the best results from modern cost effective anamorphics I have seen in recent years.  Those edges still feel a bit too much like a century 1.33x in terms of quality though.

 

From what I've seen this doesn't quite match what I've seen from the mighty schneider + FM unit. but certainly has a pleasing aesthetic to my eyes.

Looks pretty "vimtage" for a 2015 lens. I like that. 

Anyways i wonder how will it look with a modern Sigma 35 or a Zeiss.
