I prefer the warm black pro mist over the regular bpm because the color shift gives me way better skin tones than I usually get. I just got a tiffen black satin 2 & I expect even better results with highlight rolloff and edge sharpening than I get with the wbpm. Could you talk me through this behaviour with the AF-ON button Jase and whether you know if it is the same on the 45 1.8? I have the 45 1.8 and when I'm testing it with my hardware controller in MF mode I can focus manually by wire with the joystick and activate an instant AF by pushing the stick in and I can also activate a joystick steerable mode where I can move the focus point around the screen and then press the stick in to activate an instant AF on that point. The 45 1.8 doesnt have this mode, so the behaviour on this lens might be / is different. Like i said, when you have such an oly lens with the focus ring pulled back, the AF-ON button is disabled (I set the AE/AF lock button to this mode). Once you push the focus ring back to normal mode, the AF-ON works as expected (even if you set your camera (not by using the lens!) to MF mode. It will be speed boosted so a FF lens, but not a nikon, I like the look but the focus ring drives me crazy. So far I`ve been looking a dinstagons, olympus 21mm 3.5...kinda like what I see out of this olympus but the 28 and 35mm seem like duds, so It would be hard to have a matched set. Pentax M lenses have a similar look to Nikons. Otherwise maybe an RMC Tokina? I also have a manual Tokina zoom from the late 80s/early 90s that I really like. It's a 24-40mm constant f/2.8. I shot this with it on the D5500... If you're in the States, I have a second copy of it in the Olympus mount I will be listing on eBay in the next few days. Also Yashica ML lenses are often compared to Contax Zeiss. In fact, a lot of them were made in the same plant and some supposedly use Zeiss glass. Can they be adapted to ef mount? Yes it's the same mount as Contax... the C/Y mount. I saw an f/2.8 24mm go for around $120 last week on eBay. But I do feel compelled to add that even though the reverse focus of Nikon lenses annoys you, the 24mm f2 is a brilliant lens and on a speedbooster it will give you a 1.4. If you use them with a follow focus, you can usually reverse the gear so it turns the way you're accustomed to. Plus with patience one can be found for around $200. I do have a few nikon primes, and while they do look nice I don`t see anything special in them. I use them by hanging the follow focus upside down when I need them, but this time around a want a setup that is as small as possible to fit in a motorcycle pouch. A friend has a distagon 35 f2 and that lens on a full frame is magic, and it`s that look I`m wanting to find, but cant really shell out 1k+ for a single lens. The Nikon version has an aperture ring. Or I guess the better question is.... what's your budget? What camera are you using it with. And have you thought about Rokinon/Samyang lenses? They go for about $400 USD... which is right around your ballpark. With the speedbooster it will be an f/1.8, f/2. It should be perfect. Legendary lens; Leica even licensed the optical design to use in their R line of SLR lenses. You can find one around $150 if you look carefully, and a lens tech will convert it to EF mount for $100-150. Comes out to your budget on the dot. Plus there are plenty of other great lenses in the line, so building a matched set is no problem. Minolta even worked hard to keep all their lenses consistent in color and contrast, even adjusting their coatings for each lens design to keep everything matched perfectly.
