Bit rate hack - how to?

So after searching all kinds of terms with google, reading a ton of threads here and on DP review... I still have no idea how to find and install the bitrate hack, what the risks are, and how to control it. I don't even have a clear idea of what additional things it adds, how much is improved, is it there for 4K and 1080 and slowmo, etc...

Any way we could have a sticky thread here, that's just the latest hacks, where they are, what they do, and links to installers and usage instructions? We have some threads here with scores of pages running the gamut from settings to speedboosters, but it's hard to find just a basic and focused resource. Or is there a homepage somewhere with all-of-that?

(I'm no Einstein but I manage to get dressed every morning and I'm still completely confused about upping my bitrate!)

I just discovered that the KS2 mod no longer mods bitrate, so if that's what you are interested in, us the vasile mod. Yes, there are two different mods.

Looks maybe I was wrong about the KS2 mod not having bitrate. IT just changed locations in the menu structure. I just downgraded my FW though, so I can't check at the moment.

Thanks guys, I'll check it out. I assume I can't use the latest firmware though? haven't updated to it yet.

You can and actually have to on both on NX1 and NX500 (fw 1.41 and 1.12) - nx-patch

I'm trying the BT hack. So basically when you set a bitrate the "current bitrate" this will applied to all the resolutions? Will it stick through reboots?
I would like to set a bitrate for 4k and one for 60p and 120p, seems like "HD PRO" is for both fps?

Use @vasile's hack.

Exactly. Than see my answers below.

Answers below are only for vasile's NX-Patch!

Bitrate slots will be applied according to this table

OK so I tried to understand, if I set 150Mbit for "4K Pro" it applies to all 4K and FHD framerates. Is that correct?

Slot pro1 on NX1 is for all 4K, UHD and FHD* (*only when shooting over 30 fps) PRO quality setting (see table above). You can actually use hq1 or nq1 slot for a higher bitrate if you want to.

also it doesn't remember the settings, you need to apply the setting each time the camera turns on and off.

Use make persistent in NX-Patch menu to save bitrates to flash memory, this will make them persist between reboots. Otherwise they will only be kept until power off, then they will return to previous values.

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue. I just got my NX1 today and am having trouble with the Kinoseed app. It seems to install ok, but never actually fires up. I check to make sure my Bluetooth is on, but that doesn't help.

Ironically the Kinoseed hack works great on my NX500. It is easy to use and remembers bit-rates in between reboots.

I'll have to try Vasile's method on the NX1. Bit rates and recording limits is all I care about.
