update from BMD.

explains basically everything. Sounds like they have had some MAJOR problems to deal with over the past few weeks. This whole thing has been a bitch of a stress test on the company as a whole. Personally, I think they just grew up big time, and i'm now even more excited to see what they will bring to market in the future.

jeez!! thats looks complicated ..especially this part

"Now the amazing part is that the first batch of sensors we got that we used for developing the camera and that were fine when we started production were manufactured by a completely different company to the second and subsequent batches of sensors. I could not believe this news when I heard it today as it explains a lot."

Thats why is been so slow ..different supplier!!

Looks like the sensor is NOT made by Fairchild/British Aerospace ? I wonder who does make it??????

Hey Andy, would you consider adding in a little comparison between the gradability of the ProRes vs RAW. Not really a comparison but more just showing how much latitude you are missing compared to RAW? I'm wondering how much you loose when you don't have time to shoot raw. Maybe shoot inside looking out a window in both RAW and ProRes?

Thanks!
[edit]
Oh god! I just noticed that I wrote Andy instead of Andrew. Sorry, don't know how that even happened.

One River Media recently released a pretty good comparison video re 12 vs 8 bit color for grading with the bmcc.

Does anyone know whether the Nvidia Quadro cards offer any improved performance in resolve over the non-pro cards (GTX) other than clock speed and cores? Does the same apply to mobile cards as well.

On paper the Nvidia 680MX in the new top-end imac kills the Quadro 4000, which is DaVinci Resolve approved. The 680MX is also cheaper. What's the downside?

Here in Italy various dealers told me the camera will be ready to ship on sept. 15th.
They are also telling me I'd better order it because if I don't it will take a long time before I get one.

Price here is 2999 euro...pretty expensive

why it is so expensive?

It's not expensive. All of its competition is priced >$10K.  Black magic does not have any high end products to protect, and/or they aren't involved in any collusive shenanigans with the other major manufacturers; therefore, they can produce a camera that undercuts all of the competition by thousands of dollars.

It would be nice if you could actually by one in a store though .

Not sure what Helen is questioning (see my next post) but I find that when it comes to pricing a lot of consumers need to get a clue. They'd happily spend 1000 euros on a TV which makes movies look like digital sick, but a mini Alexa artistic tool is 'too expensive' at 3000 euros.

I think you mean expensive compared to the price in GBP which is £2200? 2999 euros is a mark up over Blackmagic's official pricing?

B&H lists the EF model as "Backordered" but the MFT version is still "Expected availability: December 30 2012". I talked a rep today who has said that there is no indication that they won't be able to stick to that date. Has anyone else heard otherwise?
