As in the title, I'm looking for a small tripod that I can carry around all day. Something I can take on the train that won't be clunky and a discreet for shooting in public areas. Fluid head not required, but something that can at least pan and tilt. Would be ideal if it could hold a small slider, GH2 and small head. Budget I'd say, $300 max.

thank ye's

EDIT: Thoughts?

It's more than $300, but I assembled my travel tripod with Benro Travel Flat sticks + Acratech leveling base + Manfrotto 701 fluid head and I love it. Collapses down to fit perfectly on the side of my camera pack, but is also sturdy enough to mount my 2' travel pocket dolly with camera (leveling base on top of the dolly, not below or it tilts). Not too heavy either.

I'd be using a 701 head with it, but I don't really want to spend another $150 on a leveling base when I'm going overbudget.

These sticks were packaged with my 701 when I bought it. They don't collapse down as small as what I have now but they are sturdy and lightweight. I have been very happy with them and continue to use them with my 501 head.

I already own those legs. They're alright, but they're only 2 stages. I'm after something that folds down to half that length.

I use the manfrotto 701 with the mentioned benro legs. Works alright without a leveller, well at least for my needs.

Pity someone from Benro hasn't thought about combining their fold flat legs with the self levelling head from their new tripod as it would be a pretty compelling combo for something like a GH2.

I recently purchased off ebay for my GH2 - a Benro A350FHD1. It is light, has a pan and Tilt head. Very happy with it.

Can anybody recommend a good leveling base besides the acratech? It should not be more expensive though. Acratech is hard to get in Germany...

And how many of you use a leveling base? I went ok without sofar. Its just some more fiddling with the legs until everything is level. What are the other benefits?

Cheers

And what about a cheap fluid head? Manfrotto 701 seems popular here and I could find some nice examples on youtube.
Does anyone have experience with the Benro S2/S4?

For small tripods you could have a look at Cullmann.

I'm using this one and it folds pretty small: http://www.cullmann....-522t-cb51.html
It does'nt get very high, but I like the fact that you can get very low with the short column that is included.

I tried using my tripod without a leveling base at first. But using a tripod is already so limiting and I just could not afford to give up another axis of control. The Acratech suits me very well. I bought mine from B&H. Surely, they must be able to ship to Germany!

Benro make way too many tripods. It's nearly impossible to find any info on one particular model.

This is what I went with. If anyone is interested I'll report back with how it is.

I understand you didn't need a fluid head, but why spend $200 on somthing that can't pan smoothly. For $500 you could have gotten somthing decent.

$500 is beyond my budget right now. Besides, I already have a fluid head that I can use, I mostly just wanted the legs. Also that Sachtler is too big for my needs. 85cm folded as opposed to the 45 of the Benro.
