  1. For competition. If Canon continues to produce duds then Sony et al. will have less incentive to improve their products. I'm a Sony user, but I would be very happy if Canon released a fix that made the R5 a better video than the A7s iii, even though I would almost certainly not buy it.
  2. Can anyone point me to the review? The link in the first post is broken. Thanks.
  3. When shooting s-log, if I set up a scene in stills mode so that the camera thinks the scene is correctly exposed, as soon as I begin recording the exposure readout changes from 0.0 to + 0.7. That is, it thinks it's over-exposed by 0.7 stops. Another way to test the same thing, is to set up a scene in stills mode with the exposure meter reading 0.0., then without changing anything turn the dial so that the camera is in movie mode. The readout will change to +0.7. (It's usually + 0.7, sometimes more). I'd be interested to know what's causing this.
  4. I'm interested to know what "visually lossless" means. It's the same phrase that Black Magic are using. There's a 90% reduction in size. Some of the saving comes from compression. Some of it comes from throwing away information.   I can appreciate that a well exposed shot will look exactly the same after being compressed to CineForm. What I'm less clear about is how CineForm compares to uncompressed raw when it comes to heavy grading and highlight recovery.
