    • What I love about Canon and what I hate about Canon
What I love about Canon- Lenses! What I hate about Canon- Cameras!*     * not really but I do prefer Mirrorless FF now (IE Sony A7s).
    • Samsung NX1 Film Convert is out!
after week long extensive tests, I finally come to conclusion that I'd use Gamma DR standard with -15 sharpness and MB15 for a uniform and flat skintone look, this look is good when the actor has no makeup but for more gritty look I use gamma C which gives more color depth especially on cheeks are more red than the rest of the face however I recommend makeup to smooth the face "BB CREAM" works nicely. I didn't like -4 sat and -3 contrast nor -4 contrast and 0 sat because no matter what you do you can't return the pure black back on, if you adjust black level or contrast it affects the entire image, that's why GammaC is very good for darker tones, like horror, thriller, mystery but Gamma DR is good for comedy, romance.  For nature, outdoor, buildings I prefer Gamma C, this is because it has much less macroblocking in the blue channels "sky basically" unless your sky is cloudy maybe you want Gamma DR.  remember we are using 8bit color, professionals use 16bit color for flat profile because they have the headroom to do the grading, our cameras have to be adjusted as close as possible to your final look otherwise it will start breaking up especially walls, skys and flat surfaces where repetition of pixels occur.  The NX is a really good camera, but it's the h265 that's the problem, it's very compressed and still no one knows the workings of it so grading is still a mystery with it.
    • Ursa mini...is this the end of blackmagic?
Exactly, if you're shooting something high profile you need to stick with something reliable & that's where the C series really shines - it's all there in one box & does the job. Wasn't "Blue is the Warmest Colour" shot on the C300 & that looked fine - it also won the Palm D'Or, so you can't really knock it? But having said that i've never read anything about the Pocket failing & it has served me very well - no problems whatsoever. And those that need stabilisation, just haven't learnt how to hold a camera steady yet - first time I used it I did a lot of handheld stuff (no speedbooster or wide lens), just had some heavy lenses on it & no jitters or unusable footage. It's a craft & as such needs a lot of practice/understanding. Never heard of or seen someone dropping a camera either - that's just the first rule of filmmaking, take care of the camera, even if it means you damage yourself. Yeah accidents happen, but dropping the tool of your trade, unthinkable!

There is that 135 1.4 Mitakon that you can buy for Nikon DSLRs.        Very limited edition and manual focus though (100 only in all mounts). The new Nikon should be a very nice lens though wont be quite as shallow for depth of field as a Canon 85 1.2 (for the same framing) - not that it wont be more than shallow enough anyway.     Now that the Nikon 105 1.4 is going to be around soon, it should be nice to see what it can do.
    • Canon stop making the 1D C - Listed discontinued at CVP! Is a replacement just around the corner?
If people buy their own instead of going to the rental house then instead of selling 100 to the rental house they'll sell thousands to individuals!
