Wired UK have given the latest video capable Canon DSLR the 550D a score of 9/10. There isn't anything revolutionary here, but then the 550D is a very similar camera to the 7D in almost every respect.

Pros:
Excellent all-round image quality and high resolution
External mic for video recording
Great screen
Good value

Cons:
Smaller viewfinder than the 7D
Plastic construction doesn't satisfy like the 7D
Not quite as good as 7D at high ISOs

The samples gallery here at DPReview contains full resolution photos from the 550D and it's well worth a look. It essentially maintains the quality of the 7D below ISO 1600, but the same rough texture close up at 1:1 pixels too - which I didn't particularly like about the 7D in my testing. But for the cheaper 550D you really can't complain!
